Acceptable Use of Blogging Policies

Spring Branch Independent School District views weblogs as a positive and helpful means of communicating and collaborating. SBISD respects the right of students and teachers to use them as a medium of self-expression.
  1. Students and Teachers using blogs are expected to treat blogspaces as classroom spaces. Speech that is inappropriate for class is not appropriate for your blog. While we encourage you to engage in debate and conversation with other bloggers, we also expect that you will conduct yourself in a positive manner reflective of a representative of your school.
  2. Students and Teachers who violate the agreements here shall forfeit their right to school Internet access and will face other sanctions deemed appropriated by the administration.
  3. Student and Teacher blogs are to be a forum for expression. However, they are first and foremost a tool for learning, and as such will sometimes be constrained by various requirements and rules of classroom teachers. Students are welcome to post any school-appropriate subject.

Although your weblog may be viewed as a personal project and a medium of personal expression, some readers may nonetheless view you as a de facto spokesperson for Spring Branch Independent School District. In light of this possibility, we ask that you observe the following guidelines:

Please make it clear to your readers that the views you express are yours alone and that they do not necessarily reflect the views of SBISD. To help reduce the potential for confusion, we expect you to put the following notice (or something similar) in a reasonably prominent place on your site (e.g., at the bottom of your “about me” page):

“the views expressed on this website/weblog are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of SBISD Independent School District…”

4. Ensure that your blogging activity does not interfere with your work.
